Building Confidence Through Adaptive Air Rifle: A Day of Precision, Inclusion, and Opportunity

The SMCL Foundation & Associates was proud to host another successful Adaptive Air Rifle Workshop, bringing together veterans, individuals with disabilities, and members of the community for a day focused on skill development, confidence, and inclusion.

Led by experienced instructors Julius Lee and Daniel Rome, the workshop introduced participants to the fundamentals of adaptive air rifle shooting in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment. From learning proper range safety and shooting techniques to experiencing adaptive equipment designed for athletes of all abilities, attendees had the opportunity to discover a sport that emphasizes focus, discipline, and self-confidence.

This event was made possible through an outstanding collaboration between the SMCL Foundation & Associates, Move United, the City of Kenner, Move United Warfighters, and the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Bayou Chapter. By working together, these organizations continue to expand access to adaptive recreation and create meaningful opportunities for people of all abilities to stay active and engaged.

Adaptive air rifle is more than just target shooting. It teaches patience, concentration, goal setting, and perseverance while offering participants the chance to experience a Paralympic sport that can be enjoyed recreationally or competitively. Many attendees tried adaptive air rifle for the first time and quickly discovered how accessible and rewarding the sport can be.

Events like this highlight the power of community partnerships. When organizations come together with a shared mission of inclusion, they create life-changing experiences that help participants build independence, develop new skills, and form lasting friendships.
