Empowering Communities Through Adaptive Sports and Inclusive Opportunities

Welcome to the S.M.C.L. Foundation & Associates Inc. blog! Here, we’ll share stories, highlights, and updates on our ongoing work to empower individuals with disabilities through adaptive sports and inclusive recreational programs. Our mission is to foster independence, build confidence, and create strong, connected communities by offering opportunities for everyone, regardless of ability.

Our Vision: Creating Opportunities for All
At S.M.C.L. Foundation & Associates Inc., we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to be active, engaged, and connected to their community. We are dedicated to providing adaptive sports programs and inclusive recreation opportunities that enable individuals with disabilities to reach their full potential. From wheelchair basketball and WCMX to tennis and other adaptive sports, our programs are designed to be both fun and empowering.

Through partnerships with local organizations, such as the City of Kenner Recreation Department, we are expanding access to inclusive sports and ensuring that everyone in our community can experience the joy of physical activity. We’re committed to breaking down barriers and creating environments where people of all abilities can thrive.

A Successful Start: Kenner’s First All-Inclusive Tennis Clinic
We recently had an exciting milestone in Kenner, Louisiana, where S.M.C.L. Foundation partnered with the City of Kenner Recreation Department to host the first all-inclusive tennis clinic. Held at the AP Clay Center, this event was a great success, drawing participants of all abilities from across the community. The weather played along with a beautiful overcast sky and a cool breeze, creating the perfect setting for a day of fun and learning.

Participants had the opportunity to engage in tennis drills and activities, tailored to their specific abilities, all while enjoying a supportive and encouraging environment. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, along with new participants who were eager to give tennis a try.

Stay tuned for more all-inclusive tennis clinics and other exciting programs in the near future! If you’re interested in getting involved or want to register for upcoming events, check out our https://smclf.org/tennis-program-registration/ for more details.

Making a Difference with Every Event
Our work doesn’t stop at tennis. We are continuously expanding our programming to include more adaptive sports opportunities and educational workshops. One of our current projects is organizing the first-ever national WCMX/Skate Competition in October 2024, which will be a huge step forward for adaptive sports in our region. In addition to hosting real-life WCMX and adaptive skate clinics, we are focused on education—helping nonprofits, government entities, and athletes understand the importance of inclusion and how to get involved in adaptive sports.

This event will not only provide valuable training but also connect athletes with sponsors and resources, making it easier for them to pursue their dreams. It will be capped off with an exciting competition to showcase the incredible talent and determination of adaptive athletes.
